Walk For Leukemia, Lymphoma | Cancer Kick - Nunez Kirby69's blog

The Leukemia Lymphoma Society, Long Island Chapter announced the scheduled for its annual Light the Night(r) Walk events. This year?s ?Shining Star? walk events will take place on three dates at three Long Island locations making it convenient for all Long Islanders to participate. They are scheduled for: Friday, October 12th at Eisenhower Park, Parking Lot 6A in East Meadow; Saturday, October 20th at Bethpage Ball Park (Duck Stadium) in Central Islip; and Thursday, October 25th at Long Island Aquarium (Atlantis Marine World) in Riverhead. Registration for each walk begins at 5:00 PM, which will be followed by a Remembrance Ceremony beginning at 6:00 PM, and the Walk Program at 7:00 PM. Among this year?s presenting sponsors are: North Shore LIJ Health System and North Shore-LIJ Cancer Institute. Other sponsors include: Geico, CA Technologies, Ernst Young, MSC Industrial Supply, The NYCB Family of Banks, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Sigma-Tau Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Stony Brook Cancer Center, Cold Spring Hills Center for Nursing Rehabilitation, Bethpage Federal Credit Union and Step by Step. The 2012 Long Island Community Partners for Light the Night Walk are Applebee?s, California Kitchen and Panera Bread. Light the Night Walk is an annual, nationwide program where individuals ? from children and adults to seniors ? unite in an evening walk and fundraising event to pay tribute to people batting cancer and raise funds for research and patient services. They ?light the night? carrying illuminated balloons as a show of unity and support for cancer patients.

Light the Night walkers in teams of family members, neighbors, schoolmates and corporate colleagues agree to become a ?Champion for Cures? by raising $100 or more to help blood cancer patients. On the night of the walk, each ?Champion for Cures? receives a Light the Night t-shirt, an illuminated balloon and a wristband entitling the walker to food and refreshments. There are even valuable prizes for the top fundraisers.

Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks. Please participate or volunteer to support this very worthy cause which raises hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund blood cancer research and improve the quality of life for blood cancer patients.
